Visitors crane their necks to peer up at the amazing symmetrical dome soaring high over the open center of the Pantheon (Rome, Italy). The dome is penetrated by the famous oculus, helping in daytime to illuminate the arches and bays below. The imperial Roman Pantheon (built by Hadrian, dedicated by Marcus Agrippa) is among the world's tallest free-standing domes constructed from unreinforced concrete.
