To the Stars (obelisk at Luxor Temple, Egypt, at night) - DSC8554.jpg

Luxor, Egypt -- One remaining obelisk stands before the entrance (outer pylon) at Luxor Temple. (The "missing" obelisk, companion to the one remaining, now stands in Paris, France.) Luxor temple was built principally by two pharoahs, Ramses II and Amenhotep III, and was the companion temple to Karnak for worship of the Theban triad of gods, Amun, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu. While Karnak was the home of Amun, his wife Mut and son Khonsu resided at Luxor. The two temples were linked by a road lined with sphinxes, the end of which is now visible at the approach to Luxor Temple. © Rick Collier / RickCollier.com
