Ruins left by several civilizations are mixed together at Umm Qais, in northern Jordan. Recorded in history as the town of Gadara, home of the Gadarenes as described in the Bible. The site is unusual in that it contains ruins of an Ottoman town, over a Roman town, with the original Gadarene settlement below. © Rick Collier
